SHOPIFY MIGRATION EXPLAINED

What do Shopify migration services include?

Shopify migration services cover everything needed to move a live store to Shopify: auditing the old platform, mapping and moving products, customers and orders, rebuilding the theme, replacing apps, setting up 301 redirects and planning the cutover. A good migration runs test imports first, so problems show up before launch day.

Replatforming is moving your online store from one ecommerce platform to another while keeping its data, search rankings and customers. As a Shopify migration agency, BRISTM treats it as a data project first and a design project second. We audit what you have, decide what moves and what gets cleaned up, and test the whole move before your customers see a thing.

Your products, customers, orders and rankings, moved to Shopify with a plan.

COMMON SHOPIFY MIGRATION RISKS

A platform move shouldn't cost you rankings, customers or orders.

Most migration problems come from things nobody checked: old URLs, messy variants, locked-out customers and broken renewals. We list these risks at the start of every project and test each one before launch, not after.

  1. Search rankings drop after the move

We map every indexed URL to a 301 redirect, keep titles and meta descriptions, and watch Search Console for 404s after launch.

  2. Product data that doesn't fit Shopify

We remodel variants, options and attributes into Shopify products, metafields and metaobjects, and clean duplicates before import.

  3. Customers locked out on launch day

Passwords can't be moved, so we set up Shopify customer accounts with email codes or send a planned account activation campaign.

  4. Subscriptions and saved cards stop renewing

We migrate subscription contracts and, where your gateway allows it, payment tokens, then test renewals before the switch.

  5. A cutover that stops orders

We run a final delta migration, switch the domain in quiet hours and place live test orders straight after.

SHOPIFY MIGRATION SERVICES

Shopify migration services for every part of the move.

A migration is more than an export and import. These are the workstreams we plan for every store, from a small WooCommerce shop to a Magento or Salesforce Commerce Cloud replatform onto Shopify Plus.

We list every data type, URL, app, integration and custom feature on your old platform, then agree what moves and when.

Migration audit & plan

Products, variants, images, customers, addresses, order history, gift cards and blog content moved and checked against the source.

Product, customer & order migration

Every indexed URL mapped to its new Shopify address, with titles, meta descriptions, image alt text and structured data carried over.

SEO migration & 301 redirects

Your design rebuilt as an Online Store 2.0 theme, or improved during the move while your team is focused on it.

Theme rebuild on Shopify

Old plugins and extensions replaced with Shopify apps or native features, and ERP, 3PL and marketing tools reconnected.

App & integration replacement

Subscription contracts and, where your gateway allows, saved cards moved to Utterbond Subscriptions or your chosen app.

Subscription & payment migration

Magento, Adobe Commerce and Salesforce Commerce Cloud stores moved to Shopify Plus, including Shopify B2B accounts and price lists.

Shopify Plus & B2B replatforming

Delta migration, domain switch in quiet hours, live test orders and two weeks of redirect and 404 monitoring.

Cutover & post-launch checks

HOW WE MIGRATE STORES TO SHOPIFY

Our Shopify migration process, tested before it goes live.

Every migration we run follows the same five steps. The key difference from a rushed move: we run at least one full test migration and check it against your old store before planning launch day.

  1. 01. Audit & migration scope

    Knowing exactly what you have.

We export and review your data, URLs, apps and integrations, then write a scope listing what moves, changes or retires.

  2. 02. Data mapping & test migration

Moving it once, on a copy.

We map fields to Shopify, run a full test import and compare record counts, prices and customer data against the source.

  3. 03. Build, redirects & QA

    Getting the new store ready.

We build the theme, set up apps and redirects, and test checkout, taxes, shipping and emails with your team.

  4. 04. Delta migration & cutover

    Switching when it's quiet.

We move new orders and customers since the test, switch the domain in agreed quiet hours and place live orders.

  5. 05. Post-launch monitoring

    Watching the first weeks closely.

We track 404s, rankings, orders and payments, then hand over to Shopify managed support if you want ongoing help.

The tools we use to move stores to Shopify safely.

We choose migration tools by source platform and data size. Smaller stores often use proven import apps; larger or custom stores need API scripts. Either way, every import is checked against the source.

SHOPIFY MIGRATION FAQS

Shopify migration services cover everything needed to move a live store to Shopify: auditing the old platform, mapping and moving products, customers and orders, rebuilding the theme, replacing apps, setting up 301 redirects and planning the cutover. BRISTM runs test migrations first, so problems show up before launch day, not after it.

Not if redirects and on-page SEO are planned properly. Shopify uses fixed URL paths such as /products/ and /collections/, so most old URLs change. We map every indexed URL to its new address with 301 redirects, carry over titles, meta descriptions and content, then watch Google Search Console for 404s after launch.

No. Platforms store passwords as one-way hashes, and Shopify cannot import them from WooCommerce, Magento or any other system. With Shopify's customer accounts, shoppers sign in with a one-time code sent to their email, so no password is needed. For classic accounts, we send a planned activation email campaign after launch.

A simple store on a customised theme usually moves in 8 to 10 weeks. Large catalogues, B2B data, custom features or a Magento or Salesforce Commerce Cloud replatform take 3 to 6 months. The timeline depends most on data quality, the number of apps to replace and how many test migrations are needed.

Usually, yes. Subscription contracts can be moved into a Shopify subscription app, and saved payment methods can often be migrated from gateways such as Stripe or Braintree into Shopify Payments. It depends on your gateway's rules. Our own app, Utterbond Subscriptions, includes subscriber migration, so renewals continue without customers signing up again.

We migrate stores from WooCommerce, Magento and Adobe Commerce, BigCommerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Wix, Squarespace, PrestaShop, OpenCart and custom-built platforms. The method changes by source; some have export tools or APIs we can use directly, while custom platforms need database exports and scripts written for that store's data.

No. We build and test the new Shopify store while your current store keeps trading. On launch day we run a final delta migration of new orders and customers, switch the domain and check live orders. The domain switch itself takes minutes, and we plan it for your quietest trading hours.

Yes. Past orders can be imported as historical orders without sending emails to customers, so buyers see their order history and your reports stay complete. Product reviews are usually exported from the old platform and imported into a Shopify reviews app such as Judge.me or Stamped, with ratings and dates kept.
